Mauritius officially virus-free after total recoveries, no new cases

Mauritius declared total recoveries from coronavirus infections as of May 11, 2020. The island nation’s official COVID-19 page said 322 people had recovered out of the 332 confirmed cases so far. 10 people have since died.


May 11 marked the fifteenth consecutive day that the no new case was recorded in the country. A lockdown, however, remains in place to contain the possible spread of the virus.

Mauritius becomes the second Africa country to have declared virus-free status after infection. Mauritania weeks ago reported full recoveries (6 recoveries and death at the time), another infection was subsequently recorded.

As of May 12, 2020, Africa’s sole virus-free nation is Mauritius. Lesotho is the sole African country yet to record a case. Eritrea, Seychelles and Mauritania each have one active case pending according to tallies by John Hopkins University.

2 polytechnic staff electrocuted in Ekiti

Two staff of the Federal polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, were electrocuted on Monday, while repairing a faulty facility in the institution.

Confirming the incident to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, Director of Information and Protocol, Mr Ade Adejolu, explained that the deceased were fixing a faulty facility in the institution when the incident happened.
According to him, one of them had been taken to his home town in Kogi State for immediate burial while the corpse of the other had been deposited at Mary Asumpta morgue in Ado-Ekiti.

The Lagos State police Command has paraded one Nkechi Uzor 39 for using her 16 year old daughter as a prostitute
The suspect who confessed to the crime says it’s their first year in such business.

She further disclosed that to feed and to pay bills led her into it as she is only a single mother whom the husband has left since 8 years ago with two kids.

The victim disclosed “ My mother forced me into it, she threatened to kill me or send out of the house if I don’t comply, i have no choice than to do it because is from the money we eat from and also pay school fees on, so far i have slept with 27 men since we started and there is a medicine she always gives me after they sleep with me.

Following a report and tip off, Nkechi Uzor was arrested alongside one Festus Azubuike 47 who was also there to have his own share.

Speaking on the strenght of the report, the Lagos State Public Relations Officer says the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

A single father, Patrick Ayesan, age 38, who was arrested after he impregnated 18 years old daughter has revealed why he enjoy sleeping with his daughter. According to the man, he usually sleep with her whenever the urge comes.

Patrick’s confession was made during a parade by the Edo State police Command. According to him, the incest relationship with his daughter started since January 2020, adding that he slept with her whenever the urge for sex came.

He also disclosed that the mother of the girl is no more with him, hence his decision to turn to his daughter for sexual satisfaction. He said he and his daughter stayed together at Okosa community.

“I only sleep with her when my body moves and only started sleeping with her January this year. My wife is no I more with me, so myself and my daughter stay together, and I sleep with her whenever the urge comes,” he said.

After the suspect’s confessional statement, he was charged to court and consequently sentenced to 10 years imprisonment while his daughter is currently with the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

EFCC Returns $4,040 to Brazilian Victim of Internet Fraud

Debora Moreira, a Brazilian victim of internet fraud, has acknowledged the receipt of the sum of $4,040 which was recovered on her behalf by the Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the EFCC. 

Moreira lost the money to Emmanuel Tope, a convicted fraudster, in a romance scam. EFCC commenced  investigation of the scam in March 2019 and successfully recovered the money, prosecuted and got the fraudster convicted.

The proceeds of crime was remitted into the victim’s account with Bank Itau S/A, Rua Ameirico Brasiliense, through the Central Bank of Nigeria.
