Over 1million apply for N- Power in 48 hours

The online portal for recruitment of third batch of N-Power enrolees has witnessed over 1million applications barely 48 hours after it was opened.

The Federal Government had disclosed that 400,000 applicants would be absorbed into the third batch of its N-Power National Social Investment Scheme (NSIP).

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development commenced the enrolment process of the third batch of the N-Power beneficiaries on June 26.

The ministry explained the enrolment will provide opportunities for more Nigerian youths to access the programme in furtherance of President Muhammadu Buhari’s vision of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.

An update on the enrollment exercise is contained in a statement in Abuja on Sunday night by the Deputy Director Information of the Ministry, Rhoda Iliya.

It reads: “In line with the ongoing N-POWER Batch C online application which commenced Friday June 26, 2020, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development, hereby announces that over 1,000,000 applications have been received from across the Federation in less than 48 hours after the Honourable Minister, Sadiya Umar Farouq, declared open the new N-Power Portal on the Ministry’s website.

“The Ministry wishes to reiterate that all young Nigerians between the ages of 18-35 with or without formal education can apply for a slot in the new programme which would be very focused on agriculture.

“The number of applications so far received is an indication of the number of our youths who need jobs and the confidence in the programme.

“The Ministry will continue to collaborate with its technical partners to provide timely support to all applicants.”

The Ministry promised that the selection process would be fair and transparent, adding that the public would be carried along at every stage.

It also assured Nigerians the N-Power portal is secured and no data has been compromised.

It further stated the portal is open for all Nigerians who meet the application criteria. (The Nation)

Nigeria records 490 new coronavirus cases

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 490 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 24,567.

The health agency in a tweet Sunday night said the new cases were reported in 20 states.

The 490 new cases were reported from 21 states- Lagos – 118, Delta – 84, Ebonyi – 68, FCT – 56, Plateau – 39, Edo – 29, Katsina – 21, Imo – 13, Ondo – 12, Adamawa – 11, Osun – 8, Ogun – 8, Rivers – 6, Kano – 5, Enugu – 3, Bauchi – 3, Akwa Ibom – 3, Kogi – 1, Oyo- 1 and Bayelsa – 1.

All the reporting states already had at least a case of the virus.

As of the time of reporting, 35 states and the FCT have recorded at least a case of the disease. Only one state, Cross River, is yet to officially report any case of the virus.

Till date, 24, 567 cases have been confirmed, 9, 007 cases have been discharged and 565 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

COVID-19: Ekiti confirms 3 new cases

Ekiti State Government can confirm that three (3) of the samples sent to the State molecular laboratory has returned positive results of the #COVID19 virus infection.

This brings the total confirmed cases in Ekiti State to forty-three (43), of which thirteen (13) active, twenty-eight (28) discharged, and two (2) deaths.

 

BREAKNG: Ajimobi laid to rest in private residence

The  remains of former Oyo Governor Senator Abiola Ajimobi have been laid to rest.

He was buried at his Oluyole residence while hundred of associates, friends and supporters were waiting the body at the Senator Ishiaq Abiola Ajimobi Centra Mosque, Oke Ado.

A close source to the family confirmed he had been interred.

The burial, which was only attended by only his wife, children as well as very close associates, held around 10am.

The decoy, the family source added, was to control the massive crowd already awaiting the remains of the corpse as well as allow for easier crowd control.

Foundation Donate & Sensitize During Pandemic

During this hard time of Covid19 pandemic, an Organization, Globastorm Safety Foundation (GSAFO) in Nigeria has donated some safety materials which includes, Alcohol - based hand sanitizers, face masks, hand glove to the members of the general public and food stuffs for the needy during the pandemic in Southwest of Nigeria.

The President of the Foundation and Director General, Committee of NGOs Task Force on Covid19 (CNTF), Dr. Olumuyiwa Babalola made the statement during an interview in Ibadan, Oyo State that the gesture is part of our abilities to show love, have compassion and kindness which is the real humanity to citizens. He explained further that the distribution is also to save lives from the ongoing widespread transmission.

Dr. Olumuyiwa Babalola, an honoured Professor of Humanities at the United College of Brazil and World Peace Educator stressed further that "their is no need to donate materials or items without the knowledge on how to apply or use them that is why we have also sensitized some benefactors on how to use them" and to avoid public gatherings.

Our special appreciations to the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF), Boss Mustapha, Members and all the Management of Federal/State Ministries of Health and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control for their tireless efforts and every minutes public awareness and rescue missions for saving Nigerians.

Fayemi, a Face of the Future!

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, is currently living each day of his political career to expectations, both as the Ekiti governor and Chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), with the way and manner he’s carried on. The roles so far being played by Fayemi is such that at then end of the day, especially, when the chips are down, there’s a likely individual who can represent the different demographics in the artery of the nation’s body polity.

Definitely not desperate for anything, Fayemi’s role in the recent attempt to save the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) from itself was inestimable. The situation was such that the judiciary had become the pawn of political and power abuse, with all manners of funny orders and injunctions being secured at the snap of the fingers of whoever could pull it off.

Although his traducers do not see his efforts as either progressive or value adding in their reckoning, particularly, a certain category of people otherwise considered unknown quantities in Ekiti State’s political firmament, who had been trying fruitlessly lately to square up with him, Fayemi currently occupies a place in the nation’s political space that clearly defies human comprehension. To challenge him might be to challenge his creator. He represents a future yet unknown. All eyes on him!
