Ire Akari/Unity Estate Crisis: CoS Calls For Peaceful Settlement

The attention of the Chief of Staff to the State Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, has been drawn to a video which went viral on the social media, showing some protesters chanting “Chief of Staff, we no go gree”!

It is quite unfortunate that such protest could be sponsored by residents who have been cohabiting with one another for a long time and now being called out by some people to disrupt the peace of the land.

While the Chief of Staff would not claim ignorance or ignore the plight of the residents who were forced to the street by some mindless landlords, it is important to mention that the matter is already with government and is receiving due attention.

However, preliminary findings have revealed that the crux of the matter is the security measure being allegedly put in place by the Landlord Association of the Unity Estate to curb the security challenges in the area, such as armed robbery, car snatching and burglary, among others. This, the residents of Ire Akari appear not comfortable with.

It must be mentioned also that the Chief of Staff is not a member of the Executive Council of any of the Landlords Associations and as such could not have been involved in the decision making of either of the excos.

Since both communities have written to both Governor Kayode Fayemi and His Royal Majesty, the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanmi III CON, they are being implored not to take the laws into their hands, but allow the governor and Kabiyesi to mediate in the matter as they seem fit.

There is nothing as good as peaceful coexistence and good neighborliness. There is no good conflict and there is no bad peace.

Masterminds of such protest as carried out allegedly against the person of the Chief of Staff, who also happens to be a resident of the estate or anyone else should be conscious of the after effects of such protests.

Such protest and the attendant crisis are an ill-wind that would blow no one any good. The fact that hoodlums could hijack it and lead to bloodletting, leaves us with only one. option, which is the path of peaceful resolution that government is making us to toe.

Hon. Biodun Omoleye is therefore calling on residents of both areas to embrace peace and assuring all  that everything possible would be done to avert rancour. Surely, the matter would be resolved amicably.
