BREAKING: Buhari appoints Gambari as Chief of Staff
Professor Ibrahim Gambari has been appointed as the Chief of Staff to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
Gambari’s appointment was announced by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, at the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.
The PUNCH had reported that Gambari arrived at the Presidential Villa about 10.53am on Wednesday.
Gambari, an indigene of Kwara State, replaced Abba Kyari who died on April 17 from coronavirus-related complications.
“President @MBuhari has appointed Professor Ibrahim Gambari, as his Chief of Staff, Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, announced the appointment today at the virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) Meeting,” Bashir Ahmad, Personal Assistant on New Media to Buhari, tweeted.

Nigeria Records 146 New Cases Of COVID-19, Total Now 4,787
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control made this known via its Twitter handle.
According to NCDC, the newly confirmed cases are as follows; 57-Lagos, 27-Kano, 10-Kwara, 9-Edo, 8-Bauchi, 7-Yobe, 4-Kebbi, 4-Oyo, 3-Katsina, 3-Niger, 2-Plateau, 2-Borno, 2-Sokoto, 2-Benue, 1-Gombe, 1-Enugu, 1-Ebonyi, 1-Ogun, 1-FCT, 1-Rivers
This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 4787.
However, 959 have been discharged, with 158 death recorded.

Former External Affairs Minister, Gambari May Be Buhari’s Next Chief Of Staff
Although the Presidency has yet to formally confirm this, there are strong indications that the announcement will be made at the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, May 13, 2020.
Professor Gambari served as the Minister for External Affairs between 1984 and 1985.
He held several leadership positions at the national and international levels, and has built extensive contacts with governments, as well as public and private institutions, especially in Africa.
The 75-year-old diplomat was also the Chairman of the United Nations Special Committee Against Apartheid (1990-1994).
He later served as Under-Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Department of Political Affairs between 2005 and 2007.
If appointed on Wednesday, Professor Gambari will succeed the former Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, who died of coronavirus (COVID-19) complications.
