Ekiti Assembly to Invite Fayose over Alleged Fraud

Ekiti State House of Assembly has said the House will invite former governor Ayodele Fayose at the appropriate time to make clarifications on some financial dealings he undertook during his reign.

The Assembly said a committee had been set up to discuss Fayose’s invitation with respect to the N10 bn supplementary budget passed 30 days to his exit from office on October 15, 2018 .

The Chairman , House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Yemisi Ayokunle, said this while speaking on the first year in office of the sixth Ekiti Assembly.

In response to a question whether Fayose had been invited , she said, “ We didn’t invite him, but we were about discussing his issue when he (Fayose) came in here as a meddlesome interloper.”

Recall Fayose last year stormed the Assembly complex in December 2019 , saying he was there to clarify issues after news spread that he was being invited . He was however resisted by the lawmakers.

As part of the activities marking its one year in office on June 6, the Assembly disclosed that a motion mandating the executive to rename Ekiti State Civic Centre, under construction, as John Kayode Fayemi Cultural Centre, was passed, to honour Governor Kayode Fayemi for his unwavering dedication to serve Ekiti people.

The motion was moved by the lawmaker representing Moba 1, Hon. Adeyemi Ajibade, and seconded by his colleague from Ikole II, Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, and adopted by the whole Assembly.

Non payment: Forward your particulars for verification, FG tells N-POWER beneficiaries

Non payment: Forward your particulars for verification, FG tells N-POWER beneficiaries

THE Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has refuted claims by some N-POWER beneficiaries that they were being owed up to three months payments.

To this end, it challenged those with such claims to come forward by forwarding their particulars to the ministry for verification and appropriate action.

The ministry, through its spokesperson, Rhoda Iliya, told
Vanguard Monday, that claims of non-payment of stipends to the beneficiaries for three months were not true. She, however, refused to comment on whether the ministry had paid up to May.

Mrs Iliya rather said those making the claims that they were being owed may not be genuine beneficiaries of the social investment programme of the federal government, insisting that they forward their particulars to the ministry for authentication.

“We will need the names of the beneficiaries in writing for the Ministry to verify if they have been paid or not,” she said.

Recall that the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Farouq, had recently, in a statement, said the 500,000 N-Power enrollees across the country should expect to receive bank credit alerts for outstanding payments of their monthly entitlements from Tuesday, April 14, 2020.

The development, she had explained, followed the signing of the payment mandate by her after all due processes were concluded in line with the rules guiding the federal government’s public financial expenditures.

“Those responsible for processing the payment must do it in conformity with the necessary rules and regulations to ensure accountability.

“Now that the rules were followed strictly and the process concluded, I was given the assurance that they will start receiving credit alerts from their banks today, Tuesday, April 14, 2020,” she was quoted in the statement released to the media by the Deputy Director of Information in the ministry, Rhoda Iliya.

While some beneficiaries confirmed they were paid, some claimed they have not received any payment from the ministry.
An N-Power enrollee, Mrs Angela Abua, serving in one of the primary schools in Obudu, Cross River State, told Vanguard that she had been paid up to May.

“I don’t know about others but for me, I am not being owed. In fact, I have been paid up to the Month of May,” she said.

Atiku will contest 2023 presidency – Son

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will contest the 2023 presidency unfailingly, his son, Adamu has confirmed.

Adamu spoke while presenting the scorecard as Commissioner for Works and Energy in Adamawa State to mark the first anniversary of Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Finitiri.

He said: “Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with my father contesting for the presidency.

“In 2023, my father will be aspiring to the number one office in the land because he has been an astute, strategic, master politician for almost four decades.”

He said his coming late into politics was as a result of the advice from his father, urging him to spend more time in the private sector to gain enough experience, which would be crucial for him in public life.

“I am basically here to serve my people; if I am called by the people back home to run for the Senate, I don’t see anything wrong with that.”
