The Deputy Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Hakeem Jamiu, has said that he was not nursing any ambition to replace the late Speaker Funmiyi Afuye.
The Deputy Speaker was on Wednesday reacting to rumours that he was lobbying for the speakership position.
Jamiu, who represents Irepodun/Ifelodun constituency denied vying for the number one seat in the Assembly, urging the public to discountenance the rumour describing it as the handiwork of mischief makers.
He said: “I want to say categorically without any fear of contradiction that I do not nurse such ambition talkless of lobbying to be the Speaker.
“I would not be part of such shenanigan. The Speaker is not yet buried not to talk of eyeing the position.
“In politics, people thrive on rumour. It’s going to be an insult to Afuye’s memory for us to be scrambling for his position. How can people be so wicked?”
The late Speaker, who represented Ikere Constituency, died last Wednesday at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) after he allegedly suffered cardiac arrest.
